Tanya Franklin Stained Glass Beyond Planes Master Class

Stained Glass: BEYOND PLANES

Instructor Tanya Franklin

This Class will take your stained-glass skills to another level. We will be creating a piece that becomes 3D, moves with hinging and lights up a room. You will learn to assemble panels that will be made 3D using 90-degree angles on this project. Some panels will be hinged using loop hinging to make them movable up to 270 degrees within the assembled piece. We will apply finishing touches and then light it up!

As you acquire new skills, your creativity can soar and you can design pieces you’ve imagined but were unable to create before this class. I’m excited to teach you what I have learned over the years as well as watch and enjoy what you create after the class!

Mark Ditzler - Fused Glass Mosaic Master Class

DESIGNING AND FIRING FUSED GLASS MOSAICS MASTER CLASS

Instructor Mark Ditzler

Learn a fun technique combining fusing and mosaic that will produce amazing results. It is a way to make geometric or free-form patterns that look like stained glass. You can make complex designs without the need for extremely accurate glass cutting, and this method can be adapted to larger projects. It is also a great way to recycle your scrap glass! We will cover basic glass cutting and firing methods. Students will also learn how to make a reusable paper pattern, a basic skill for any production work.

The photos of my work examples show some of the possible options, from geometric patterns to realistic landscapes. Develop your own aesthetic using this versatile technique!

Over the 4 day class we will make several “test” tiles leading up to one final project (12” – 16” size limit, subject to mold availability). Students can bring photos or sketch ideas to discuss. Any experience level.

Form & Fabricate (And Fun!): Master Class with Joseph Cavalieri

FORM AND FABRICATE (AND FUN!)

Instructor Joseph Cavalieri

This class encompasses all aspects of making a stained-glass panel, from design and production to mounting the work in a frame illuminated with LED lighting. Many samples will be made in class, and one 10-by-10-inch frame with LED lights will be provided to each student to professionally hang and light their artwork.

The focus of this workshop is to learn and practice how to add detailed images to your stained glass works. In class you will next learn processes including cutting glass, airbrushing glass (using an atomizer and airbrush), pen-and-ink drawing, silk-screen printing using existing screens the instructor will bring, and painting glass.

No need to be an expert painter, we will be tracing images in class. Enamels are painted on the glass surface then kiln fired onto the glass. Students will copper foil and solder the panel together to make a finished stained-glass panel. Great for beginners and those with experience working with stained glass who want to bring it to the next level.

Emma Varga 3D Aquarelle Fusing Master Class

3-D AQUARELLE FUSING

Instructor Emma Varga

During this class, Emma will introduce her original method of fusing and casting multiple layers of glass, which she has been exploring and developing, with great success, for past 25 years. This innovative technique enables fusing/casting of thin glass sheets used to set up layers composed of tiny mosaic-like elements, thus achieving three-dimensional images inside the transparent fused/cast sculptural object.

This course will focus on a new way of 3-dimensional thinking in creating glass object; on using properties of glass to achieve visual effects as well as to achieve sense of movement within cast glass object.

Students are not required to have previous experience in glass fusing. Beginners will be able, along with students possessing advanced glass fusing skills, to create and finalize their own 3-dimensional glass objects during 5-day course.

At all times during the course, students will have access to extensive digital gallery on file in Emma’s laptop: images of recent work as well as close-ups revealing fine details on layers inside the glass object. Expect to discover an exciting new method of creating images within transparent 3-dimensional glass objects.

Firing schedules for fused/cast objects are a very important part of this course and will be thoroughly explained, along with guidelines for creating firing schedules for each type and size of fused/cast objects.

Additionally, students will receive basic theoretical information about grinding and polishing 3-D glass objects.

Fusing in the 3rd Dimension with Tony Serviente Master Class

FUSING IN THE 3RD DIMENSION - MASTER CLASS

Instructor Tony Serviente

Journey to the exciting realm of 3D fused glass art!  While fused glass is usually seen in a 2D construction, this workshop will get the glass up off the kiln shelf to make objects that have unique visual and tactile qualities and that interact with light and movement in ways traditional fused glass can't.  Beginners are welcome and if you are an experienced kilnformer you'll learn some new tricks. Tony has over 3 decades of experience in kilnforming production, experimentation and teaching. He will keep a brisk pace focused on project construction, but there will be side trips into other aspects of this world such as kiln selection, creating your own firing schedules, and really understanding what happens in a kiln. Be prepared for anecdotes gleaned from his 40 years as a glass artist!
