Making Molds with Silkemat

Instructor Barbara Cashman

If you have ever wanted to have the freedom and flexibility to make a mold that was unique to you and your art, then this is the class for you.

This 3-day workshop will walk you through the basics, and cover the advantages of using SilkeMat (a non-carcinogenic fiber blanket) and SilkeMat Rigidizer to make soft and rigid molds; strong enough to face many many firings.

The planned glass projects will include a Drop Ring Vase, a casting and a potmelt. In addition, you will make an organic Slump Mold, a vitrigraph mold and 1-2 more to take home as reusable molds. Projects may adapt with the dynamics of the class, but that's what creativity is all about. If there is time, you will also have the opportunity to discuss a personal project as a group, so I encourage you to bring an item with you that you would like to make a mold from in the future. This is something unique to you. Your project will be discussed in class as the best way to approach the process. This is a great opportunity for questions and problem-solving for the entire class.

Bring your favorite glass tools, an apron and disposable gloves. We'll have everything else.

Come join the adventure and discover what is truly possible.
