Manufacturer of the Month: TAG Glass

This year we had the honor of adding Trautman Art Glass (TAG) to our expanding inventory of glass art products. And, we’ve had nothing but a blast sharing it with our customers. This revolutionary brand features some of the industry’s most innovative colors and effects. It has quickly becoming world-famous for striking soft glass for blowing, beading, and sculpting.

Paul Trautman: Masterminding the World’s First Colored Boro Company

Paul Trautman was a pioneer in creating colored sculptural glass, paving the path for a new wave of blown glass artists. Trautman began developing some of the colored glass products that TAG fans know and love, blending his knowledge of borosilicate glass and chemistry with a keen eye for color to create his own custom blends. In the mid-1980’s he built the first colored borosilicate glass company in the world, Northstar Glassworks. Most boro producers to this day use his methods.

The Birth of Trautman Art Glass

Trautman intended to retire, but fans around the country urged him to continue to produce and sell his famous colored glass. He founded Trautman Art Glass in 2002, with the intention of providing borosilicate artists with brilliant new colors to add to their palettes.

The birth of TAG nourished an already-growing glass blowing community, offering new tools for expression in the resurging artform. Now, their palette has grown into one of the most comprehensive and complex of any producer. They currently create rods and tubing with unbelievable depth, texture, and brilliance. They offer their impeccable colors and patterns in 104 COE and 33 COE

Striking Colors for Soft Glass Artists

Red Elvis, TAG’s claim to fame designed in the early 2000’s, is still one of the most popular reds in blown glass. Ask any T.A.G fan and you’ll know that lampworking is a delight with these brilliant compatibility-tested glass products. Their initiatives to become a renewable-powered facility and reduce their carbon footprint place them on the leading edge of sustainable businesses.
