Manufacturer of the Month: Covington Engineering

Covington Engineering

February’s Featured Manufacturer is Covington Engineering. As leaders in the glass equipment industry, they have been providing quality tools and top-notch customer service since 1848! Covington Engineering has continued to improve their selection with the launch of a new and larger catalog as well as a revamp of their website and even some new polish on their building in Redlands, California.

They have also continued to upgrade their machines for manufacturing.  With seven CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, they now make parts faster, more accurately and with better quality control (all under one roof).  One of their newest machines has cut down the production time of some parts by as much as 75%! This helps them keep costs down and lets them deliver a better product without sacrificing quality.

Leader: Dan Drouault

A frequent visitor to Ed Hoys International, Dan Drouault leads the team at Covington and has even taught a few classes for us. Thanks, Dan! He’s been at the helm since 1998.  He became president of Covington Engineering in 2010 and continues to improve product quality and customer satisfaction.

Originally, Covington Engineering manufactured hand and foot grinding machines and arbors, which were used for sharpening farm equipment, gems, coral, and sea shells.  Covington stepped into grinding glass and stone was a simple one as they had plenty of experience with their grinders.   CovingtonAround 1940, Covington began to produce quite an extensive collection of machines, everything from grinders, saws, and polishing machines. They continue to create better and more affordable machines to this day.

When we asked Dan what advice he would give a new or budding glass artist, he said:

“Continue to work towards your dreams. Art is an expression of oneself and needs to be nurtured. To me, it is a place of reflection and relaxation.  Continue to educate yourself, learn from others and from classes, and lastly don’t give up!”

Covington Engineering proudly makes and assembles their products in the U.S. Check them out in our store!
